Privacy Policy
Effective October 28, 2026
Uncommon Pursuit, Inc. is a Georgia 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 87-3459028). In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Uncommon Pursuit. This policy covers our website, uncommonpursuit.net.
Two related sites have their own policies. Friends Following Jesus (friendsfollowingjesus.com) is our ministry initiative; this site uses its email and giving systems, and this policy says where. Our online community at up.uncommonpursuit.net has its own accounts and its own privacy policy.
In short: We collect what you give us (an email address to subscribe, a message through a form, the details a gift requires) and use it for the reason you gave it. We use Google Analytics and Google Ads to understand our visitors and measure our ads. We don’t sell your personal information.
1. Information you give us
Gifts. When you give, you enter your email address and, if you choose, your name. Stripe processes the payment. Your card number goes directly to Stripe and never reaches our servers. We keep a record of each gift: your email address, your name if you gave it, the amount, the date, Stripe’s reference numbers, and any campaign tags in the link that brought you to our giving page, including which of our emails it came from. We use this record to send your receipt and to keep the records the law requires of a nonprofit.
Friends Following Jesus keeps the same gift records and sends the receipts for both sites. If you have, or later create, a Friends Following Jesus account under the same email address, your gifts appear in your giving history there.
Monthly gifts. For a monthly gift, Stripe saves your payment method so it can charge you each month. To change or cancel a monthly gift, sign in at friendsfollowingjesus.com/my/friendship with the email address you gave with (signing in creates a free Friends Following Jesus account if you don’t have one), or email us.
Gather, The Daily, and journeys. These signup forms send your email address to Friends Following Jesus, along with the page you signed up on and any campaign tags in the link that brought you here. Friends Following Jesus sends you a confirmation email and, once you confirm, the emails you chose. From then on, the Friends Following Jesus privacy policy covers those emails. If you arrived from one of our ads, the form also sends the ad visit ID described in section 2, so we can tell which ad led to your signup.
Our newsletter. The newsletter form at the bottom of every page sends your email address to Kit, the service that sends our newsletter. Some pages, such as 12 Steps to God and Together, have signup forms that load directly from Kit and send what you enter straight to Kit. Kit records when you open our newsletters and which links you click. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link.
Contact and request forms. Our contact, speaking request, financial assistance, and community facilitator forms send what you write (your name, email address, message, and any event or church details you add) to Carson Weitnauer’s inbox, delivered by Resend. We don’t add you to a mailing list when you use these forms. If you’re asking for financial assistance, share only what you’re comfortable sending by email.
Stories on our giving page. The stories on our giving page come from people who shared them through Friends Following Jesus for others to read. If yours appears and you’d like it removed, email us.
2. Information collected automatically
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to learn which pages people read and how they find us. It records the pages you visit, the site or link that brought you here, how you interact with pages (for example, scrolling, clicking links, and reaching or using a signup form), your device and browser type, and your approximate location, which Google estimates from your IP address. A signup event tells Google which form you used, never your email address. Google Analytics uses cookies. Google explains how it uses this information at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Google Ads. When you arrive from one of our Google ads, Google records the click, and if you then sign up, Google counts the signup as a result of that ad.
Ad visit ID. If you arrive from a paid ad, our site sets a cookie containing a random ID that lasts 90 days. It contains nothing about you or your device. After you’ve spent a few seconds on the page, we send Friends Following Jesus a record of the visit: the page and its title, the ad click ID and campaign tags in the link, the site you came from, your browser and device type, and your country and state or region. Friends Following Jesus uses your IP address to screen out bots and data-center traffic, then discards it without storing it. If you sign up, the same ID connects your signup to the visit, so we know which ad helped. Visitors who don’t arrive from an ad get no ID, and their visits are not sent to Friends Following Jesus.
Server logs and abuse protection. Like nearly every website host, Vercel keeps short-lived logs of requests to our site, which include IP addresses. Our giving form uses your IP address to limit repeated attempts, holding it in memory for up to an hour. If a page fails to load, your browser reports the error and the page address to us, but not who you are.
Do Not Track. Our site doesn’t change what it does in response to a browser’s Do Not Track signal.
3. Content from other companies
Some pages load content from other companies. When they do, that company receives your IP address and browser information and may set its own cookies:
- YouTube videos on some pages, including Speaking Requests and The Paradoxes of the Christian Life.
- Stripe on our giving page. Stripe also collects information about your device to prevent fraud.
- Candid, which supplies the transparency seal on our giving page.
- Kit signup forms on some pages.
Links to Amazon are affiliate links. If you buy something after following one, Amazon knows you came from us, and we may earn a commission. Our merchandise is sold through Etsy. Amazon, Etsy, and other sites we link to have their own privacy policies.
If you gave through our earlier donation system, Donorbox, Donorbox keeps the records of those gifts. You can manage them through the Donor Portal link at the bottom of every page, or email us.
4. How we use information
We use the information described here to:
- process your gifts, send your receipts, and keep the records a nonprofit must keep;
- send the emails you signed up for;
- answer your messages and requests;
- learn which pages and ads help people, and improve the site; and
- prevent fraud and abuse.
5. Who we share information with
We don’t sell or rent your personal information. We share it only:
- With Friends Following Jesus, our ministry initiative, for the signups, gift records, receipts, and ad measurement described in this policy.
- With the services that run this site for us: Vercel (hosting), Stripe (payments), Supabase (the database that holds gift records), Resend (delivering form messages), Kit (our newsletter), and Google (analytics and ad measurement).
- When the law requires it, such as in response to a court order.
6. How long we keep information
- Gift records: as long as tax and nonprofit law require.
- Newsletter subscription: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Form messages: in our email for as long as we need them to respond. Ask us and we’ll delete yours.
- Ad visit records: up to 48 months, under the Friends Following Jesus analytics retention policy.
- Ad visit ID cookie: 90 days.
7. Your choices and rights
- Emails: every newsletter and Friends Following Jesus email has an unsubscribe link.
- Cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Google offers a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, and you can turn off personalized ads in Google’s ad settings.
- Access, correction, and deletion: email us to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you. We’ll do it, except for gift records the law requires us to keep. We honor these requests from anyone, wherever you live.
8. Children
This site isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.
9. Visitors outside the United States
We’re based in the United States, and the services we use process information here. If you use this site from another country, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.
10. Security
Every page on this site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Stripe handles all card details. No system is perfectly secure, so please don’t send sensitive information, such as a card number, through our contact forms.
11. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we’ll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
